What does a photography session cost?
This is my most frequently asked question. However, to put a price online would not be sufficient because there are many variables. The number one thing is this: I do not charge session fees. What Rose Day Photography does instead is charge minimum purchase requirements. This, too, varies. It would depend on
- The number of families to be photographed
- Whether the session is in studio or on location
- Distance to location
- Etc
This is why the consultation is so important (it’s free!). Once I get an understanding of what it is you are looking for, I can give you a quote that takes your needs into consideration.
Are you available anytime?
Yes and No. Rose Day Photography is a home studio which carries normal business hours. However, I am by appointment only because I do not put a time limit on a session, especially for children’s portraits.
As a mother, I know that children are unpredictable, no matter how well we plan. They have minds of their own. Also, some children need more time than others to acclimate to their surroundings and to me. Therefore, by scheduling by appointment only, I am able to leave plenty of time for your needs and wants. Why feel rushed when you and your family want to look your best? And yes, I am available on weekends.
What if I am unhappy with the pictures?
Portraits: I have a satisfaction guarantee, because you and I cannot predict how a child is going to feel on any given day. So, when it comes to portrait photography, if you come in and view your portraits, and for whatever reason, are unhappy, then there are 2 options. The first is to re-photograph your family or child. And the second option is a full refund of your minimum purchase requirement. I want everyone to love their portraits for years to come.
Weddings: Because weddings are uncontrolled events, Rose Day Photography cannot guarantee any specific photograph or pose. I will however, attempt to honor all special requests. I will also do everything that I can to make sure your event is captured as you see it.
Do you offer consultations?
Yes! I offer free consultations for both weddings and portraits clients.
Portraits: For my portrait clients I can give a consultation over the phone or in person depending on what you prefer. In the consultation I answer all questions that you may have. We also go over clothing recommendations. If you have your own selections, I can help you choose which can be the most flattering. I also go over recommendations on portrait locations, whether or not you want a studio session, and what kind of look or mood you want to achieve. Also, during this consultation you get to know me and I get to know you. I also find out what works best for you and your family and what kind of photography you are drawn to.
Weddings: For my wedding clients I recommend coming into the studio or I can come to you. I like to give you that one on one attention to detail which I feel is necessary to make sure you receive all the images you want on your wedding day because there is no do-over. During the consultation, we go over your timeline and/or create one for you if you do not already have one. This gives us a great starting point on how many hours of coverage you need, which can help us determine what package would work best for you. We also discuss what images are most important to you, whether that be the romantics or family portraits. During this consultation we will go over all the details of your wedding day from the ceremony site to whether or not you are having a formal exit from your reception and everything in between.
Do you offer the rights to our wedding day images?
Yes, I do offer the option to purchase the rights to your images for an additional cost once the minimum investment has been met.
How much are your wedding day packages?
I have two options when it comes to wedding day packages. I have four set packages that start at $1,000 and work their way up from there. All my packages include engagement sessions and online viewing for friends and family. There are also discounts available.
The second option I offer is my A La Carte packages which begin with a minimum investment of $500 dollars. These packages are customized to your needs and offer the flexibility needed for smaller, more intimate weddings.
Are you the only photographer?
I am the owner and operator of Rose Day Photography, and I am the main photographer on all weddings and portraits. I do offer the option for a second photographer, who will work with me, a your wedding.
Will I get you on my wedding day?
Yes. I will always be at your wedding day. I do not outsource my weddings to other photographers. The only reason I would not be at your wedding would be for an unforeseen event or sickness. In that case, I promise and guarantee that the photographer I have to replace me will be the same caliber of photography and a licensed professional.
Do you use off camera lighting? What is it? And why is it important?
Yes. And I always recommend asking the photographer you are considering highering if she or he uses off camera lighting. Off camera lighting is a portable lighting source that can be used to light a dark room, add drama to an image, help prevent dark circles under the eyes, and in the case of an outdoor wedding at night or a rainy day your photographer will be able to shine light on your day vs. having dark tunnel images. Off camera lighting is very important if you want the added drama and flair to your images.
Do you photograph in Raw? And what is that?
Yes, I do photograph in Raw. Raw is a term used for the type of format that you capture your images in camera. The other alternative is Jpg. Many of us have recognized this term because it’s what we all use when we photograph with our point and shoot camera’s to capture our moments. The difference is the way a Raw image is captured in the camera vs a jpg. A Raw image is the total amount of possible data in any particular image while a Jpg is an image captured by the camera but instead of it being what you see the camera fills in the data and therefore deprecates the image’s quality. What does this all mean?
What it means without getting to technical is a Jpg image is not the best possible quality nor is able to be expanded exponentially like a Raw image can, to create beautiful pieces of art in your home.
Do you photograph in Manual or Auto?
I always photograph in manual because I want to have the control over what the camera does, as opposed to allowing the camera to think for me and guess what I am trying to achieve for you.
Here’s the best way I can explain why I photograph in manual: Have you ever had a picture of a person come out blurry even though they were standing still? This happens, especially, in low-lit situations. The reason is this, your camera is trying to meter for the the ambient light and not your subject, so the camera slows down the shutter speed. This ends up causing motion blur.
I photograph in manual so that I can control the settings on my camera. This lets me ensure that the person I am photographing is in focus, because the camera doesn’t know that I am using off camera lighting to compliment the scene’s available light.
Do you offer Albums? And are they custom designed?
Yes, I offer wedding albums and portrait albums. I also personally custom design each of my albums because I do not want someone designing the album that doesn’t know you or what you are looking for. You also get to review the album design before it goes to the Lab to ensure that the album reflects what you felt on your day and represents your tastes.
Do you offer online viewing and purchasing?
Yes. For both weddings and portraits I offer online viewing through my website www.rosedayphoto.com, located under the Galleries section. All images are password protected and have a custom login.
When can I see my Photographs?
Weddings: Images are available for online viewing four weeks after the date of your wedding. If they are done sooner I will call you and email you to let you know. The images will stay online for two months, after which they will be taken down.
Portraits: After the date of your session, we schedule a time that is convenient for you to come in and view the portraits, usually one week after the session takes place.

What is a minimum purchase requirement?
A minimum purchase requirement is a designated fee/credit associated with my portrait sessions. It varies depending on where and how many people I am photographing.
For example: If I am photographing a baby in the studio alone, I have a 200 dollar minimum purchase requirement. On the day of the session you give me a check for 200 dollars. When you come in to view your child’s portraits you have a 200 dollar credit towards your purchases. I have found this ensures that clients will come in and view their images vs. not feeling obligated to come in. And after six months if you have not come in to view the photographs the minimum purchase requirement is turned into a session fee.
What is involved with wedding photography?
There is a lot involved with wedding photography. First we have a free consultation to decide if we are a good fit for one another and if my photography is what you are looking for on your wedding day. Either during this consultation or our next meeting, we develop a time line to ensure everything runs as smoothly as it can on a wedding day. This also helps us see how much coverage you feel is necessary on your wedding day. It also ensures that your Officiant, DJ, family and me the photographer are all on the same page, so that all of the photograph’s that are special to you are captured.
Is wedding photography just for the day of the wedding, or are there sessions before that?
We also meet to discuss your engagement portraits. I recommend this session because it gives you a feel for how I am behind the camera and you the chance to feel at ease in front of the camera. It also gives you a chance to have professional images to create save the dates, a signing mat, or even a guest book. If you have already had engagement photograph’s done, I still like to have you over for a twenty minute session to capture your image for your online viewing cards. Your online viewing cards are cards to be dispersed at the wedding so people aren’t calling you “asking where can we see the images.” Instead, they will have a wallet size image of you with all the information they need to access your wedding day photographs.
What kinds of packages are available for weddings?
I have two options when it comes to wedding day packages. I have four set packages that vary in price and what is included. My packages start at $1000 and work their way up from there. All of my set packages include engagement portraits and online viewing for friends and family. The second option I have is my A La Carte packaging which is customized to your needs and wants for the day.
What is boudoir photography? Do you offer this?
Boudoir photography are images of women that are tasteful, intimate, artistic, and beautiful. Some women have boudoir photographs taken of them for a special someone while others do it for themselves so they have a reflection and a reminder of how beautiful they are. A woman’s figure is beauty to be awed and honored.
I do offer this type of photography, I have some samples of what I have done in my portfolio, but I call it intimate portraits. Because I feel that when I am capturing a woman’s beauty it is an intimate reflection of them and very personal. Also please do not feel discouraged about have intimate photography’s done, I have photographed more women that what is seen on my website but at their request I do not display them on the internet. So if you have any questions please call.
How many years have you been a photographer?
I have been photographing professionally for 13 years. I started out in high school photographing with a local professional photographer capturing weddings and sporting events. I fell in love with photography and the people, and haven’t stopped photographing since. I feel it is an honor and a blessing to be chosen to capture your most precious memories and that will continue to be my driving force in photography.
What do I do if I want to make copies of my photos a few months or years down the line?
